Our ghee products are sold primarily in three sizes: 7.8 oz, 14 oz and 28.8 oz. See the pictures below for reference. Some of our customers have asked why we don’t sell our ghee in standard 8 oz, 16 oz, and 32 oz containers. The answer is quite simple. The containers we use are, in fact, the standard 9 oz, 16 oz, and 32 oz glass jars that are currently used for packing various food products in the US. However, because ghee is lighter in weight than water, the actual net weight of our ghee in these glass jars is 7.8 oz, 14 oz, and 28.8 oz respectively.
FDA law requires that we label our ghee (which is solid at room temperature) by weight in ounces rather than volume (fluid ounces). Not doing so would be a violation of this law. This means, for example, that our jar of ghee labeled with a net weight of 14 oz actually contains 16 fluid oz.
The next time you see a jar of ghee labeled as 16 oz or 16 fluid oz, you’ll know for sure that it has not been labeled correctly.
