New Jersey, USA – January 14, 2013 – Pure Indian Foods, renowned producers of grass-fed & certified organic 100% vegetarian spiced ghee products have been awarded third prize in the “most promising / innovative” product category at the 2012 American Herbalist Guild Symposium. In addition, Pure India Foods was honored with second pick in the grand prize “best overall product” category.

The American Herbalists Guild was founded in 1989 as a non-profit, educational organization to represent the goals and voices of herbalists specializing in the medicinal use of plants. Its primary goal is to promote a high level of professionalism and education in the study and practice of therapeutic herbalism. The American Herbalists Guild is the only professional organization for herbalists of all traditions in the United States of America.

Each year, The AHG hosts a symposium and educational experience honoring the practice of herbal medicine with clinically focused classes and skill sharing. Herbalists of all levels gather annually to enhance their skills to deepen their understanding of botanical medicine and clinical applications that strengthen, support and inspire their practices. The 2013 AHG Symposium will be held in Bend, Oregon, November 7-10, 2013.

During the 4th annual symposium held at Seven Springs, Pennsylvania from October 18-21, 2012, and among fifty other products from 20 different businesses, Pure Indian Foods was honored in the small herbal business products contest for its Grassfed Organic Spiced Ghee. To select the most innovative and health-enhancing products, the expert panel of judges completed a comprehensive review of all the product submissions to determine the winners and runners up.

Pure Ghee (clarified butter) has both herbal and food sustenance uses. It not only serves as a concentrated source of nutrition but has special whole mind/body healing properties as well. Ayurveda life science, a 5,000+ year-old holistic medical system, considers Ghee to be a rejuvenative for optimum health and vitality and in addition to being used for culinary purposes, can be infused with herbs and used as topical ointments, as well as many other internal and external health purposes. As such, ghee is a key ingredient in many traditional and highly effective Ayurvedic preparations.

Pure Indian Foods was recognized for bringing the concept of Ayurvedic herbal ghee to a culinary level by introducing six spiced ghee products. These Spiced Ghee products are prepared by adding a combination of beneficial herbs and spices into ghee while the ghee is being made, using ancient Ayurvedic methods. This allows the lipid and water soluble active ingredients of these herbs and spices to bind with the ghee molecules. When you eat such ghee you receive the maximum benefits of the added spices and herbs*.

Ghee has two properties that make it suitable for using as a base for preparing herbal products. It is a “Yogavahi”, which means ghee has an ability to augment the effect of any herb added to it. Ghee also helps transport the healing and health-promoting qualities of the herbs to the body*. The second property is “Samskar Anuvartan”, which means ghee when processed with herbs, does not lose its own qualities while imbibing the attributes of the herbs added to it. Among all oils and fats, only ghee has this unique quality, whereas other oils and fats give up their own qualities. For example, when sandalwood is added to oil, the oil loses its “heating” quality and adapts the “cooling” quality of the sandalwood.

“We are proud to have been recognized and honored by the American Herbalist Guild, a community that strives to respect diversity in herbal medicine ranging from traditional indigenous models of herbalism to modern clinical phytotherapy,” comments Sandeep Agarwal, President of Pure Indina Foods USA. “We have always placed a strong emphasis on 100% natural and sustainable products and having our Ghee recognized amongst this professional association of herbalists, reinforces our dedication and efforts to provide the most wholesome product we can.”
