Natto Gohan (Natto with Rice)
Makes: 1 serving

Natto Gohan, or your basic Natto with Rice recipe, is a staple of Japanese breakfasts. The super easy bowl comes together quickly from re-constituted freeze-dried Non-GMO Natto and leftover cooked rice. In its most simple form, you simply pile soft natto on top of a bowl of steamed rice and add a splash of soy sauce for seasoning. The distinct aroma and unique flavor of natto add depth to the simple rice, creating a nutritious and satisfying meal.
Yet it's even better if you add toppings like chopped green onions, pickled ginger, bonito flakes, or a sprinkle of sesame seeds, mustard seeds, or our Kashmiri Red Chili Powder for extra flavor and texture. To make it even more filling, you can top it with a runny-yolked fried egg.
Despite being an acquired taste, Natto Gohan is cherished for its protein-packed, probiotic-rich profile and is considered a breakfast powerhouse in Japan because it can usually be assembled in just a few minutes. (And it's so much more nutritious than a bowl of cereal!)
